This trendy Shoreditch pizzeria is set in a converted fire station on Tabernacle Road. As soon as I walked in, I immediately liked seeing that The Yard’s managed to retain lots of these original features and still has a warehouse vibe to it.
Seated in a booth in the corner, my date and I were well looked after by the staff throughout. It had that perfect atmosphere for one of those early dates, there was a buzz happening around the restaurant but we could easily chat above the noise.
Though the salads are known for being really tasty here, my date and I couldn’t resist the sound of the pizzas. We both opted for individual quarter yard pizzas with mine topped with baby spinach, black olives, artichokes with garlic oil and light mozzarella on a pesto base. My date chose to have his pizza topped with hot sausage, bacon, chicken, fresh chillies, peppers, red onions, mozzarella and tomato sauce. If you want to share you can opt for the half yard pizza or even full yard if there’s a few of you.
Comfortable, stylish and well priced, I left feeling that the Yard is the perfect choice if you’re up for a good quality pizza but you’re bored to tears by Pizza Express. The Yard is also in a great location for pre or after dinner drinks. My date and I ended our evening with drinks on the roof terrace of The Red Lion just off the nearby Hoxton Square.
