This has long been one of my favourite London hide-outs, so when I ended up near Waterloo on a recent date, I immediately thought to come to ScooterCaffè.
ScooterCaffè always reminds me of a hidden and forbidden speakeasy that you might find on the continent. This place is stuck in times past but in the very best way. It used to be a moped and scooter workshop and it’s still filled to the brim with workshop paraphernalia with just enough room for a few tables. There’s even a resident cat which provides a good talking point if you can’t think of anything else!
Split over two floors and lit by candles and fairy lights it provided the perfect escape from the freezing December evening for my date and I to get cosy in a corner and enjoy a couple of beers. Drinks are well priced and there’s a small terrace outside though it was too cold to go out while we were there.
It’s also worth coming here in the daytime if you find yourself in the area. ScooterCaffè serves up great coffee and extremely tasty cakes and still has that warm atmosphere that you find in the evening.
ScooterCaffè has no website – it’s far too cool for that
