I have been wanting to see this show ever since its burst into theatreland in 2011. Luckily I ended up coming to see it on a date a few weeks ago and it was definitely worth the wait. It’s been a runaway hit ever since it started in the National Theatre and though it’s changed theatres, it’s never stopped its run.
This corkscrew comedy tells the story of Francis Henshall who somehow ends up working for two different bosses and tries to cover it up. This loveable idiot is always hungry and desperate for a girl and gets himself twisted up in a range of messes before the play is out. The plot is full of mistaken identities and hilarious mishaps plus it has that air of improvisation about it which makes you feel like no two shows are ever quite the same. This splendidly silly show had us giggling all the way through and gave us loads to talk about in the pub afterwards.
It’s currently playing on Haymarket at the beautiful Theatre Royal. Keep a look out on lastminute.com for cheap tickets as there are often deals to be had.
