If you’ve never been to Kew Gardens then now is the time – though Kew Gardens is beautiful in all the seasons, it’s Springtime when some of the most beautiful flowers start coming out making it the perfect place at the moment for a date. Here you’ll see the stunning beauty of flowers including snowdrops, crocuses, bluebells and daffodils.
Though it seems like a long way to take someone on a date (unless you live round those parts), we recommend making the most of it and getting the river boat there. You can catch the boat from Westminster pier and see some London’s most iconic sights along the way.
Think ahead and pack a decent picnic (M&S always have great ready-made picnic food so don’t worry if you haven’t got time to make it yourself) and remember to take a nice blanket to sit on.
Start at Victoria Gate and from around mid-February you will be greeted by a sea of over two million blue, white, and mauve crocuses. Then make your way down to Elizabeth Gate which, from mid-April will have 250 types of stunning magnolias. The trees are grouped together with their large pink and white flowers and the sight of it will take your breath away. Keep making your way around the gardens from here and when you’re ready, settle down amongst the flowers to enjoy your food.
There’s also two cafes and two restaurants in the Gardens so if you’d prefer, they all serve good food and drink. Our favourites are the White Peaks cafe which has lots of seating both inside and out, plus has a special Pic ‘n’ Mix stand in the centre which holds specially sourced ingredients, and the Orangery Restaurant which serves delicious Peyton and Byrne’s food.
Kew Gardens also hosts loads of events every month so it’s worth checking what’s on. Each day in April one of the Kew guides will be taking tours around the Gardens to explore the spectacular bulb displays as well as the lesser known species, blossoms and bulbs from around the world. In Summer Kew hosts “Kew The Music”, a series of outdoor concerts which are well worth getting tickets for.
I always think of Kew Gardens as the garden of London. It’s here that you will really see and feel the seasons change and it’s a truly unique London experience. Believe us, a date at Kew Gardens is definitely one that you’re date won’t forget.
