My date and I stumbled across this hidden gem when we were looking for somewhere quiet to eat amongst the overcrowded chain restaurants in the West End’s theatreland.
Hankering for some sushi and intrigued by the extensive menu we decided to take a chance on an unknown restaurant. I’m so glad we did as it was clear from the moment that we walked in that this place was good from the smiling numbers of Japanese people eating there.
We were seated straight away and ordered some tasty plum wine to drink while we perused the menu. Eventually we decided to order a selection of dishes and share. We opted for fish cakes with wasabi, pan fried aubergine with homemade chilli sauce, salmon sashimi, mackerel and ginger sushi rolls, soft shell crab king rolls and edamame beans. We were thrilled with our food – I can honestly say that everything we tried was delicious. Although the staff weren’t overly attentive, we were well looked after and even better, we weren’t chased out as soon as we had finished our meal. This encouraged us to relax and indulge in trying some of the Japanese liqueurs on offer.
Squashed between two other restaurants, Hazuki is easy to miss so look out for it. Worth taking a chance on, the food was delicious and reasonably priced so well worth a visit if you’re in the mood for Japanese. Hazuki has inspired my date and I to try some more Japanese restaurants in London. If we come across any other star finds, you can be sure you’ll find it here on the London Date Guide.
