If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to dine at the Faulty Towers Hotel with Basil, Sybil and Manuel then this is the perfect opportunity.
Your evening will start in the bar where you will be enjoying a drink when you suddenly notice out of the corner of your eye that Basil Faulty is in the corner swearing at Manuel for doing something wrong. It’s now that you’ll notice Sybil gradually working her way around the room, smoozing with the guests and unleashing that machine gun laugh of hers.
One by one, Manuel and Basil direct groups into the dining room where inevitably things start to go wrong causing Basil to fly into an amusing rage at Manuel while Sybil, of course, blames Basil for all accidents.
You’ll be served up a three-course meal amid total mayhem and you’ll be involved at all times. The show is a non-stop comedy thrill and with only one third of the show being scripted, you never know what’s going to happen. There are the classic sketches of Manuel losing his rat which caused him to lovingly stroke my dates small amount of facial hair because it was ‘soft like his rat’ and the brilliant goose stepping madness of Basil making fun of the Germans but there’s also loads of improvised genius which keeps the show fresh. What’s more, each character is played superbly, never once dropping any hint that they are not the originals so you really feel like you’re in the thirteenth episode of Faulty Towers. Anthony Sottile playing Manuel was our favourite of the show, not to dampen the other amazing performances by Alison Pollard-Mansergh & Jordan Edmeades but he had the crowd on his side and us in constant stitches with his relentless gaffs and cock ups.
This is belly-achingly funny and something truly unique – we can’t recommend this experience enough.
The Fawlty Towers Dining Experience is playing at the beautiful Charing Cross Hotel until the end of December.
