We can honestly say that on a sunny day Brockwell Lido will be host to one of the loveliest dates you’ll ever have in London.
Sitting in Brockwell Park, a short walk from the centre of Brixton, you can start your date by taking the 10 minute walk and enjoying the park greenery. Just follow the path and you’ll soon find yourself at the Lido. Beware – on a sunny day the Lido gets very busy so you may have to queue but believe us, it’s worth it. We’ve only ever to wait 40 mins max and the queue moves fairly smoothly.
It’s £5.65 each for entry into the Lido which gives you access for the whole day. It’s worth bringing something comfy to lie on as there are no sun loungers and only concrete surrounding the pool. Surprisingly instead of being annoying, this gives the Lido a rather old-fashioned and charming quality to it. The pool is big enough to fit a lot of people in so you’re able to swim to another part of the pool if you start to feel a bit crowded. One of our favourite things about this pool is that you are still allowed to dive in and show off your moves, something that seems to be banned at a lot of pools these days.
When you start to feel hungry, The Lido Cafe serves up fresh, local produce and offers some delicious combinations of seasonal tarts, salads and burgers so it’s definitely worth trying. The cafe was a winner in the Time Out Eating and Drinking Awards 2011 and it certainly deserves the title. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food and there’s enough choice to tempt everyone. It also serves breakfast and dinner and even if you’re not planning on visiting the pool, the cafe is still well worth a visit.
One of the few lidos in London (and in our opinion, the best), this date offers something different and won’t cost you a fortune. You will definitely leave with a smile on both your faces.
N.B. Remember that you will see each other in your swimwear so if either of you are particularly shy it might not be the best choice for the first date.
